A Guide To Staying Safe When Using Tools Up A Ladder!

An article described two men who fell while on an Extension Ladders and fell with nail guns in their hands, one shooting two nails into his chest and the other shooting two into his head after tumbling from a ladder. It's not hard to recognize that a nail gun is intrinsically more dangerous than a ladder, but combining them can lead to disaster. In spite of the fact that these are extreme examples, the dangers are still evident. The accidents won't stop people from using power tools up ladders, since that's a part of construction and virtually unavoidable. However, there are precautions we should take when using tools up ladders, especially power tools.

First, the type of tool you use is extremely important when it comes to making sure it's safe to use. Tools that feature safety features (like automatic cutoffs) may cost a little more than those with budget features, but they're worth the extra money in terms of safety. It is a good idea to rent tools if you cannot afford to buy the more expensive version for the time you need them. Renting tools will be cheaper than buying them and will give you a greater variety to choose from. Safety features on tools are sometimes bypassed or removed to speed up the operation; this is taboo and should never be done to save your life or prevent serious injury.

A Heavy Duty Extension Ladders with a heavy tool can become unbalanced and slide to the side, so be aware of the weight of your tools and whether it is safe to use them at height on the ladder or whether you should find another access method. When you're using heavier tools, you'll also get fatigued faster, which results in less work being accomplished each day.

If there is a lighter alternative, choose it. You and those below are also at risk if heavy tools are dropped accidentally, so if you are on the ladder (especially if you try to catch them), you and the people below are at risk.

When carrying tools up a ladder, it is important to do so carefully, as one hand should be free to climb the ladder safely. A tool belt is a good piece of equipment to have, but using a rope to haul large parts of the kit up is also an option, and is better suited to items that could cause an injury to the user if dropped. An effective way of transporting tools from the ground to the person on the ladder is with a bucket that is tied to a rope that loops over the ladder rung and allows them to climb up and down freely. It is important to not unbalance the ladder when transporting heavy items this way, but it is much safer than manually carrying anything up the ladder.

If you use ladders frequently, a tool tray is a great accessory to have, as it allows you to rest your tools safely and securely when they are not being used. These accessories can make your work much more efficient and quicker as you don't have to keep getting up and down the ladder for different items. You can also use these trays to hold paint pots (or decanted paint) when decorating.

It is important to remember all tools can pose a risk if used up as Aluminum Extension Ladders, including nail guns. Keep a safe distance from ladders and follow our ladder safety tips.
